RAAF A29-448
Information concerning A29-448's post-war history will be forthcoming. However, I'd like to address the curious
case of this Hawk's dual-identity. As you may or may not have noticed, the restored aircraft carries the serial
A29-448 on the port side, along with the squadron code and aircraft ID letter, GA-C... but on the starboard side
there are no codes, only the serial A29-1050. While A29-448 is a valid serial for a P-40N-1, A29-1050 is a code
assigned to a P-40N-35... serial number 44-7884 to be exact. How exactly this dual-identity came about seems to be
a mystery, as all references I have come across offer no explanation. If anyone has information concerning this,
please contact the webmaster.
